What We Do
We accept clothing donations across New York City, redistribute the majority of the clothes we receive for free at our street pop-ups, upcycle damaged textiles into artworks during community art workshops, and resell high-end items to fund the project.
Why "sacred"
Our name is inspired by the ancient story of Adam and Eve. After Adam and Eve disobey God's command not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, one of the first things that God does to show them mercy and to protect them from the consequences of their actions is that He gives them animal skins to clothe them. We think about that a lot: clothing as a daily reminder of God's providence, mercy and protection, given to us with love. That idea shapes how we work. Sorting donations is slow, attentive work, and handing someone a coat on a cold sidewalk is a small act of care that goes both ways. Conversations at the racks turn to stories full of meaning more often than you might expect. People tell us about the person who gave them a jacket, or the shirt they wore for years and finally passed on. Clothes carry stories. We try to honor that.
